Atlanta, Georgia is a city located in the southeastern United States. The land was originally inhabited by the Cherokee and the Creek Indians, until white settlers acquired it in 1822. The city has undergone several name changes since its inception, and it was officially renamed Atlanta in 1847.
Throughout its history, Atlanta has played important roles in both the American Civil War and the Civil Rights Movement. During the Civil War, the Confederate army held onto Atlanta until it was infamously burned to the ground by General William Tecumseh Sherman in 1864. The burning of Atlanta marked the beginning of the end for the confederacy. In the 1950s and '60s, several civil rights demonstrations and rallies were held in Atlanta, including many that were lead by Martin Luther King, Jr.

Peachtree Street and Peachtree Road are both popular Atlanta streets immortalized in fiction novels by authors like Anne Rivers Siddons and Margaret Mitchell. Peachtree Road is acknowledged as the main street that the city of Atlanta was built around. Peachtree Street is the known as the "main drag" of Atlanta, and it runs north/south in the city through Five Points and midtown.
